“I believe the on-going licensing process will be key for the region and making sure that it encourages a competitive product offering for consumers”
Fintan Costello, General Director of BonusFinder, states that order will be very important for the development of online gaming in Latin America, while celebrating the company’s landing in Colombia.
Due to the passion and clarity in the approval of licenses, BonusFinder feels a very great challenge for the arrival in Colombia. Likewise, in conversation with Revista CASINO, Fintan Costello, General Director of the company, establishes that order will be very important for the development of online gaming in Latin America.
How do you think the gaming industry has changed during 2020, a year marked by the pandemic? What lessons do you think the pandemic left for the gaming industry?
There are a few key changes I have seen happen in the last year, the biggest is that land based casino players due to lock-down and closures have started migrating online and are responsible for a big surge in online play. Second due to fixtures being cancelled sportsbooks have increased the importance of gaming products Casino and a surprising surge in Poker as well. Finally and much closer to home is the importance of your business being able to adapt such big disruptions while also looking after your team and making sure everyone is safe and sound.
What are the expectations for the launch of the site in Colombia?
We are super excited to be launching in Colombia as it is the first country we have launched in Latin America. We chose Colombia as we are a huge fan of the licensing regime in Colombia which is super important for us. Secondly within our team we have Colombian gambling experts that are super passionate in helping players navigate all the different brands and offers available in Colombia.
What are the main benefits of the company’s platform? What are the main demands of players today?
The BonusFinder.com platform is designed to help people “play with more” and is designed to help players of all levels, so it doesn’t matter if you have a small playing budget or a large one, we’ll help you find the perfect bonus for you. This way you get the best possible game experience for your money.
What is your vision of the Latin American online gaming market?
We see Colombia as our first market in Latin America and will use it as a jumping of point for other licensed countries in Latin America as we grow our team of local experts. We are super excited about Colombia and Latin America and see it becoming an important part of our business over the next 10 years.
What expectations does the company have for countries that are thinking of regulating online gambling, such as Argentina, Peru and Brazil?
Obviously it is up to every government to decide what is right for their citizens and we’ll always respect those decisions. What we believe passionately is that sensible regulation of online gambling is super important. Apart from the obvious tax benefits to governments it’s also crucial because it provides player protection safeguards which should always be the number one priority. Finally when we look at the wider gambling eco-system and what we see in other markets is that land based operators who can successfully move to online product offerings benefit from overall incremental growth of their business. As players preferences are for a seamless multi-channel experience across mobile, laptop, betting shops and casino properties.
What do you think are the main challenges in the Latin American region?
I believe the on-going licensing process will be key for the region and making sure that it encourages a competitive product offering for consumers. For brands entering the region the key challenge will be to treat each country with respect and not just copy your Spanish website for the Colombian market (as a simple example). For the region I’d also love to see more homegrown regional champions who own their own software and product roadmap tailored for their audience and not just picking an international supplier and adding a logo.
What are the company’s plans for 2021 in Latin America?
We plan on taking our time and developing deep roots in Colombia with our new website, while always monitoring for opportunities across the region.
