BGF y SBC buscan impulsar soluciones legislativas y mejores prácticas para promover una industria del juego sostenible
El Better Gambling Forum (BGF) y SBC Events & Media han firmado una alianza estratégica para impulsar un enfoque práctico y escalable de protección al jugador en Norteamérica y otras regiones.
La alianza aprovechará las plataformas de eventos y medios de SBC para fomentar el compromiso con el marco Responsible Gambling 3.0 de BGF, con el objetivo de traducir políticas e investigaciones en implementaciones reales para operadores, reguladores y sistemas de salud.
El presidente de BGF, Shawn Fluharty, comentó: “El Better Gambling Forum se enfoca en convertir la evidencia en acción. A través de nuestro marco Responsible Gambling 3.0 y una supervisión científica independiente, estamos ayudando a responsables políticos, reguladores y operadores a pasar de las buenas intenciones a soluciones que realmente reduzcan el daño.
“La siguiente etapa de nuestro trabajo se centra en la escala y la consistencia: construir estándares prácticos y basados en evidencia que apoyen un ecosistema de juego más seguro y sostenible para los jugadores, la industria y la sociedad en general. Como parte de esta colaboración, BGF y SBC organizarán un panel principal en SBC Summit Americas (9 al 11 de junio) para analizar cómo construir una respuesta moderna de salud pública frente al juego problemático, al mismo tiempo que se promueve una relación más saludable con la industria del juego.
La sesión reunirá a líderes de salud pública, políticas, industria y plataformas digitales, entre ellos:
- Patrick J. Kennedy, excongresista de Estados Unidos y líder nacional en salud mental y adicciones;
- Dr. Nathan Carroll, director médico nacional de InSite Health y miembro del Consejo de Salud Digital, Innovación y Tecnología de la American Psychiatric Association;
- Toby Ewing, de la Escuela de Medicina de Stanford, asesor de Brain Capital y exdirector ejecutivo de la California Mental Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission;
- Paul Pellizzari, vicepresidente de Responsabilidad Social Global de Hard Rock International;
- Dr. Eraka Bath, profesora de Psiquiatría en la David Geffen School of Medicine de UCLA.
La sesión del Summit será la primera de una serie de debates a través de los eventos y canales de medios de SBC —como el Player Protection Hub— orientados a promover e internacionalizar la agenda de BGF de crear marcos legislativos y operativos prácticos para fomentar un ecosistema de juego verdaderamente seguro y sostenible.

El panel —y las futuras discusiones— explorará caminos prácticos a seguir, incluyendo políticas tempranas, modelos de intervención, integración con sistemas más amplios de salud conductual, el rol de las plataformas digitales en la configuración del comportamiento y cómo la industria puede alinearse en torno a estándares consistentes de protección al jugador.
Es importante destacar que el trabajo de BGF está supervisado por un Comité Científico Independiente, conformado por ocho académicos expertos en juego de distintas partes del mundo. El objetivo del comité es garantizar que el trabajo de BGF esté firmemente basado en evidencia, ética y mejores prácticas.
El panel forma parte de un sólido programa de contenido sobre juego seguro en SBC Summit Americas, que incluirá un Player Protection Symposium en el escenario breakout con algunos de los líderes de pensamiento más importantes e influyentes de Norte y Sudamérica.
Better Gambling Forum and SBC announce strategic partnership
BGF and SBC aim to advance legislative solutions and best practices to promote a sustainable gambling industry
The Better Gambling Forum (BGF) and SBC Events & Media have entered into a strategic partnership to advance a practical and scalable approach to player protection across North America and beyond.
The partnership will leverage SBC’s events and media platforms to strengthen engagement with BGF’s Responsible Gambling 3.0 framework, focusing on translating policy and research into real-world implementation for operators, regulators, and healthcare systems.
BGF Chair Shawn Fluharty commented: “The Better Gambling Forum is focused on turning evidence into action. Through our Responsible Gambling 3.0 framework and independent scientific oversight, we are helping policymakers, regulators, and operators move beyond good intentions toward solutions that genuinely reduce harm.
“The next phase of our work is about scale and consistency — building practical, evidence-based standards that support a safer and more sustainable gambling ecosystem for players, the industry, and society alike. We are excited to work with SBC to broaden our reach at the SBC Summit Americas and beyond.”
As part of the collaboration, BGF and SBC will host a flagship panel at SBC Summit Americas (June 9–11) to examine how to build a modern public health response to problem gambling while also promoting healthier engagement with the gambling industry.
The session will bring together leaders from public health, policymaking, industry, and digital platforms, including:
- Patrick J. Kennedy, former U.S. Congressman and national leader on mental health and addiction;
- Dr. Nathan Carroll, National Medical Director at InSite Health and member of the American Psychiatric Association’s Council on Digital Health, Innovation, and Technology;
- Toby Ewing, Stanford School of Medicine, Brain Capital Advisor, and former Executive Director of the California Mental Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission;
- Paul Pellizzari, Vice President of Global Social Responsibility at Hard Rock International;
- Dr. Eraka Bath, Professor of Psychiatry at the David Geffen School of Medicine, UCLA.
The Summit session will be the first in a series of discussions across SBC’s events and media channels — such as the Player Protection Hub — aimed at promoting and internationalizing BGF’s agenda of building practical legislative and operational frameworks to foster a truly safe and sustainable gambling ecosystem.
SBC Managing Director Andrew McCarron stated: “We’ve made significant progress in recent years with the online Player Protection Hub and the Player Protection Symposiums in Lisbon, Florida, and Toronto. We hope these channels will help accelerate BGF’s work and allow SBC to contribute to real, positive, and practical progress for an industry we all know is highly innovative — and ensure it is also safe and sustainable for everyone.”
The panel — and future discussions — will explore practical pathways forward, including early-stage policies, intervention models, integration with broader behavioral health systems, the role of digital platforms in shaping behavior, and how the industry can align around consistent player protection standards.
Importantly, BGF’s work is overseen by an independent Scientific Oversight Committee composed of eight academics with gambling expertise from around the world. The committee’s goal is to ensure that BGF’s work remains firmly grounded in evidence, ethics, and best practices.
The panel is part of a strong safer gambling content program at SBC Summit Americas, featuring a dedicated Player Protection Symposium on the breakout stage with some of the most important and influential thought leaders from across North and South America.
