El Instituto de Investigación ICE (IRI) está cumpliendo su misión fundacional —promover el debate, elevar los estándares de la industria, informar políticas públicas y dejar un legado duradero— con dos de sus estudios académicos financiados presentados ante investigadores internacionales, reguladores y líderes de la industria durante la 19ª Conferencia Internacional sobre Juego y Riesgo, celebrada en el Bellagio Resort and Casino de Las Vegas (del 26 al 28 de mayo).
Organizada por el Instituto Internacional del Juego de la UNLV, la conferencia exploró cómo la tecnología, las políticas públicas y el comportamiento de los consumidores están redefiniendo la experiencia del juego.
Los dos proyectos académicos financiados por el IRI comprenden “Representaciones sociales y estigma en torno al juego en la España contemporánea”, liderado por el Dr. David Pere Martínez Oró, director de Episteme Social; y “Avanzando en la ética y gobernanza de la inteligencia artificial en el sector del juego”, un proyecto de investigación desarrollado por la Universidad de Nevada en Las Vegas, en cooperación con la Universidad Rey Juan Carlos de Madrid.
Al explicar el trasfondo del Instituto de Investigación ICE, Ewa Bakun, directora de Relaciones con la Industria de World Gaming (anteriormente Clarion Gaming), señaló: “Tras el traslado de ICE a Barcelona, establecimos junto con Fira Barcelona un fondo anual de inversión para otorgar subvenciones a instituciones científicas y académicas, y financiar investigaciones sobre prevención y sostenibilidad, proporcionando así una sólida base científica para respaldar la toma de decisiones. Este enfoque nos diferencia de gran parte del trabajo académico existente, que se ha centrado principalmente en el tratamiento de los daños asociados al juego”.
Añadió: “La Conferencia Internacional sobre Juego y Toma de Riesgos es el lugar donde se presentan y revelan las investigaciones más recientes de la industria. Cuenta con rigor científico y académico, profundidad y análisis, y es el evento ideal para compartir hallazgos verdaderamente nuevos y originales.
“Nos sentimos honrados de que no uno, sino dos estudios financiados por el Instituto de Investigación ICE hayan sido seleccionados para su presentación. Esto valida nuestra visión de aprovechar el poder de la marca ICE para contribuir a crear un futuro sostenible para la industria internacional del juego y un legado duradero que vaya más allá de los importantes beneficios que ICE aporta a la economía regional”.

ICE Research Institute financed academic studies presented at the 19th International Conference on Gambling & Risk
The ICE Research Institute (IRI) is fulfilling its founding mission — to promote debate, raise industry standards, inform policy and leave a lasting legacy — with two of its funded academic studies presented to international researchers, regulators and industry leaders at the 19th International Conference on Gambling & Risk, held at the Bellagio Resort and Casino, Las Vegas (May 26-28).
Organised by the UNLV International Gaming Institute, the Conference programme explored how technology, policy and consumer behaviour are redefining the gambling experience.
The two IRI-financed academic projects comprise “Social Representations and Stigma Surrounding Gambling in Contemporary Spain”, led by Dr David Pere Martínez Oró, Director of Episteme Social, and “Advancing AI Ethics and Governance in the Gambling Sector” — a research project being undertaken by the University of Nevada in Las Vegas, in cooperation with Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, Madrid.
Explaining the background to the ICE Research Institute, Ewa Bakun, Director Industry Relations at World Gaming (formerly Clarion Gaming), said: “Following the relocation of ICE to Barcelona, in partnership with Fira Barcelona we established an annual investment fund to provide grants to scientific and academic institutions and finance research on prevention and sustainability, in the process providing a robust scientific base to inform decision making. This focus distinguishes us from much of the existing academic work, which has primarily concentrated on gambling harm treatment.”
She added: “The International Conference on Gambling & Risk Taking is where the latest industry research is unveiled and presented. It boasts scientific and academic rigour, depth and analysis, and is the event for truly new and original findings to be shared.
“We are honoured that not one, but two pieces of research financed by the ICE Research Institute were selected to be presented. This serves as a vindication of the vision to harness the power of the ICE brand to help create a sustainable future for the international gambling industry and a lasting legacy which extends beyond the significant benefits that ICE brings to the regional economy.”
